Tour begins 10:30 am with brunch in Crisfield, MD just prior to heading to the docks to meet our captain - Don’t miss the boat!

  • 45 minute ride across the Chesapeake Bay (more or less, depending on weather) out to Smith Island to meet our waterman and other hosts.

  • You’ll quickly drop your overnight bag at the LOVELY two story family home with wrap around porches that overlook the bay and “guts” (waterways) cutting throughout the island. BRING GALOSHES - no joke! - tides & funk rise into the streets: wear comfortable shoes that may get splashed. You want to be comfortable when tasting, so be prepared & bring galoshes

  • In the afternoon we’ll step over to the docks and visit a shanty to learn the basics of crabbing & molting, choosing and transporting your booty for your cooking…

  • Taste the most popular island crabcakes then…

  • Learn the island heritage way to cook & pick crabs for your cakes

  • Prepare your original recipe crabcakes.

  • EAT crabcakes

  • Take a rest and relax with the breath-taking scenery or explore the island by bicycle, foot or kayak.

  • Our Island coffee roaster will have a pre-dinner or a breakfast tasting, paring and discussion of beans & roasting.

  • Yes, the history & authentic Smith Island Cake is appearing for your tastebuds.

  • Dinner will be based around local crab inspired soups.

  • Sleep on this disappearing island & awaken refreshed to magical views.

  • Sunday breakfast introduces you to a historical island tradition of cheese & coffee

  • Weather permitting - more excitement with a special bonus trip to hidden wildlife treasures! - as a local captain transports us to visit thousands of birds rarely seen this far north.

  • Returning for another crab inspired local lunch and wrapping up your time in this special place for your last bit of free time.

  • 4pm return boat trip to the mainland with a few hosts to ease you back into the 21st century.

** The wind & tide (and eating) RULE our weekend here - you must be flexible and understand the order of events & timing can change as we are in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay **

** We aim to bring you the enjoyable, authentic experiences within a local community and respect their culture. This is a also a “dry” island - meaning there is no alcohol for sale or trade here. ***Please contemplate your expectations before you book: You cannot just leave the island whenever you fancy - as we are crossing over the bay and trips are highly wind and tide dependent.***

This is an active food-way tour on an island without good cell phone/wifi reception, there are no grocery stores, alcohol, restaurants, or other “modern conveniences”. Yes, you have your own comfortable room and bathroom, a great place to cook, learn, eat/sleep and hang out - in a historic home overlooking the waters in a way that will disappear soon. But you need to be comfortable with yourself & others in a place where there are no outside distractions except mother nature.

Walking and biking are the main modes of transport - the few golf carts on the islands do not run over salt water tides that come up into the pathways. Packing rubber galoshes is highly recommended in case a high tide comes in as we dock or depart. Overnight bag should be lightweight & contain clothing you can layer for unexpected weather changes.

We ask that you rest well prior to your adventure with us - Return to the mainland is around 4pm Sunday - ** Our adventure is weather/water dependent…boat could leave later than scheduled or cancelled if water travel is deemed unsafe. Call us directly with questions. (410) 443-0025
